Eleventh Entry

Hopefully we can get in two entries today!

So here goes;

Today as we left Rotorua, we saw our first full-sized Mazda 6 Wagon. These aren't available in Canada, but if they were...
Hey dad, they've got your car in a wagon!

Below you can see a picture of Blue Lake, which has a deep bottom and is fed by a different source than Green Lake, whose bottom is shallow.

Below, Green Lake can be seen. If it doesn't look so green, it's because of the camera's colour correction.

The next attraction, that Cal and Colleen were able to visit, was called, the Buried Village. In 1886 there was an eruption of Mt. Tarawera, which most of the residents of the small village of Te Wairoa survived, but the Pink and White Terrace baths, listed as the eighth natural wonder of the world by many, were utterly destroyed.

Lake Tarawera, below, was formed as a result of Mt. Tarawera's eruption.

We stopped for lunch on the shores of Lake Tarawera, and Cal & Cailin decided it was the perfect opportunity for kinetic activities. What actually looks like loads of fun, is actually loads of screaming by Cailin, while Cal howls with laughter at her distress.

What's really cool in New Zealand, is that since they don't allow open fires, they provide gas-fired barbecues in all the public parks so you can cook your food.
The "cook" scaring a little hurry-up into the food, while the cook's helper wonders about his future...

OK, I've resisted doing this till this point; What is the logic of travelling thousands of miles to take a picture of your girlfriend? I Don't Get It!!
My guess is they'll have thousands of these in the end...

We couldn't go through this area without showing you a hot stinky mud pool, so here it is.

This one's for Dan. You can't see it from the photos below, but there were miles and miles of pipes bringing in steam to the turbine house.

Why are these people wearing life jackets?

Rapids Jet was a gas, as we raced up and down the Waikato River on the Aratiatia rapids @ speeds of up to 50 mph, for over 40 minutes. What a blast!!

Flying along at top speed...what are you doing, Jay? HE DOESN"T NEED POINTERS!!

So much for the super loo!

One of the cool features of this campground was the towel rack outside. In such a warm and humid environment, such a contraption is a must.

One of the things we didn't like about the park was the condition of the unit inside. On the plus side, though, this was one of the only places that supplied herbal teas et. al.--

To date, this was the best TV with the best programming (3ABN!)

Is there anything wrong with saying good night with a Bentley? I think not!
